The Supreme Court was delighted with the involvement of the Contemporary Art Society in the commissioning of Catherine Yass’ new artwork in Courtroom Two. This was a sensitive project, in a modern courtroom in a grade II* listed building, marking the 100th anniversary of women being able to practise law and the contribution made by women as a result. Consultancy was able to simplify the whole process – which went from concept to reality in less than a year – by using their expertise to clarify the brief, identify who might be contenders for the commission and take on the whole burden of dealing with getting the commission realised and installed – acting as a liaison between commissioner, host site, artist, technical teams and communications. In the process, the team expanded our knowledge of contemporary art practices and ensured delivery of an artwork, which has enhanced the court as well as contributing to public education.
