Fabienne Nicholas invited by Sadiq Khan to become a Mayor’s Design Advocate

Fabienne Nicholas, the Contemporary Art Society’s Head of Consultancy, has been invited by the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan to become one of 50 Mayor’s Design Advocates, advising the GLA’s various agencies to ensure that London’s growth is socially and economically inclusive, as well as environmentally sustainable. The advocates – half who are women and a quarter who are BAME – include celebrated architects Sir David Adjaye OBE and Sadie Morgan, as well as influential fashion designer Wayne Hemingway MBE.

CAS Consultancy’s cultural strategy work and extensive expertise in the public realm gives Fabienne a unique blend of experience to contribute to the Mayor’s vision. With a social agenda at its heart, culturally-led regeneration animates and humanises public space and creates distinctive, authentic places that work for people and communities.

Sadiq Khan launched his Good Growth by Design programme on Monday to enhance the design of buildings and neighbourhoods for all Londoners. In a speech at the London School of Economics, the Mayor spoke of his vision for the future of London as the city’s population heads towards 10 million people.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “London is facing unprecedented population growth and with that comes challenging work, but also amazing opportunities to deliver a city that is socially integrated, sustainable, healthier, safer and with a world class public realm. We must take this chance to use good architecture and planning to make a real difference to the lives of Londoners.

“We’ve already seen examples of where good growth can lead to a host of other benefits such as better social integration amongst different communities and generations, and new transport links transforming areas and local economies.”

The Contemporary Art Society Consultancy combines public art expertise with sophisticated research and analysis to develop comprehensive cultural strategies for a range of settings – including masterplanning, major developments, health, education and commercial sectors. Our extensive relationships with architects, developers, designers, landowners and local authorities ensure that our strategies achieve planning and regeneration aims and create sustainable and stimulating environments for local communities.
