Green's paintings tell of events (real or imagined) in his own and his family's lives. This work shows the artist's father coming up the stairs to see his grandmother standing uncertainly at the top of the stairs after having knocked over and broken the tail off a Chinese pottery animal ('Kylin'). Green sets the date of this particular event as 1946.
