Biography
Alfred Hugh Fisher (b. London 1867 – d. 1945) studied at Lambeth School of Art and South Kensington School of Art (now Royal College of Art) after nearly a decade in an office in the City. He then studied under Laurens and Constant in Paris. He was a printmaker and illustrator who was employed at the Visual Instruction Committee of the Colonial Office which involved extensive travel to places abroad such as New Zealand, India, Burma, Hungary and France. He both illustrated and wrote such books as, The Cathedral Church of Hereford (1898), The Marriage of Ilario (1919) and Through India and Burmah with Pen and Brush (1911). He exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of British Arts (RBA) and with the Royal Engravers. A. Hugh Fisher was also a full member of the Chicago Society of Etchers and the California Print Makers.
