

Gérard Antoine Henri van der Stok (b. Plantungan, Java, Indonesia 1870 - d. The Hague, Netherlands 1946) studied at the Royal Instititute for the Navy and was a naval officer from 1889 to 1903. He lived with his wife Henrina Johanna Elisabeth Werle in The Hague. He was largely a self-taught artist who took lessons from Philippe Zilcken (1857-1930) in 1903 and Willem van Konijnenburg (1868-1943) in 1908. He was a painter, sculptor, printmaker and a stained glass designer.
