At CAS Consultancy, our work in the public realm has placed social value at the forefront of everything we do – developing opportunities for artists to contribute not only to developing great art but equally importantly to building communities. These past weeks have given us insight into humanity’s incredible ability to rise to immense challenges, to support each other and to respond with new ways of thinking.
The importance of creativity has never been so clearly understood, and in this newsletter we showcase some of the brilliant initiatives emerging out of these times. Creative people are doing good in the world right now.
Home+ is a collaboration between artists, designers and chefs to support their local NHS in Homerton by delivering nutritious, fresh and delicious hot meals to the staff most exposed to the effects of the current crisis. Coming off a long shift, that meal gives key workers vital respite – the chance to rest, to not have to battle the shopping trip or cook for themselves. Everybody involved is giving their time for free, but in order to cover costs of fresh produce Home+ is asking local friends, family and comrades to support the scheme. Information and contributions here.
Architects and designers are mobilising too – in an effort to rapidly boost effective medical response to the outbreak, an international network of architects, engineers, doctors, military experts, and NGOs have developed an open-source solution to convert shipping containers into plug-in Intensive-Care Units. The project, called CURA (Connected Units for Respiratory Ailments, and also “cure” in Latin), was initiated by Italian architect, engineer, and director of MIT’s Senseable City Lab Carlo Ratti with fellow Italian architect Italo Rota. Information here.
Marking a year since the launch of Letters to the Earth, the public are invited to send their letters to be included in an online event on Earth Day, 22 April, where letters will be read by international actors, authors, key workers and young people. Tune in on 22 April via www.letterstotheearth.com to hear some of the many letters read.
Our imperative to share knowledge and ideas is finding new platforms in our evolving social sphere. We are committed to championing excellence in art and promoting the role of culture in our world, we’d love to hear of other projects to share.
Be safe and well all.
