Biography
Anniken Amundsen (b. Oslo, Norway 1971) studied at Winchester School of Art in the mid-1990s. She was first drawn to textiles as a therapeutic activity, 'to make the days go by', while she was being treated for Hodgkin's disease, a form of lymph cancer, which resulted in her being drawn to all forms of abnormal cell growth as a subject of her art research. She had a large solo show, Invaders, Maidstone Library Gallery, Kent (2002). She also participated in Through the Surface (2003), a British-Japanese project where she worked in collaboration with the Japanese textile artist and professor Machiko Agano in a touring exhibition where they showed one monumental collaborative piece as well as one individual piece each. She exhibited again in Japan in 2021 at Gallery Galley, Kyoto with PHOTEX, in collaboration with Jenny Rydhagen and continues to participate in group shows both in her native Norway and the UK.
