Biography
Bruce Tippett (b. Boston, Lincolnshire, UK 1933 - d. 2017) studied at Leicester College of Art, 1951–4, then the Slade School of Fine Art, 1954–7. He had his first solo show at Lords Gallery, London in 1958 and was awarded a French Government Scholarship to live in Paris between 1959–62, where he became interested in new American painting and began to roller and pour paint and use experimental fabrics. He worked in Rome, then in America from 1965, and in 1966 beceme affiliated with the Betty Parsons Gallery with which he was associated for many years. He also designed furniture for Gavina factory in Italy. In 1970 Tippett was guest artist at the University of Southern Illinois. During the late 1970s he travelled extensively in Kenya, Egypt and India, and by the late 1980s he had retuned to figurative pictures. From 1990 Tippett worked between London and France. In 1992 England & Co hled a retrospective of his works made between 1950–80.
