Biography
Colin Cina (b. Glasgow, Scotland, UK 1943) attended the Glasgow School of Art (1961–63) and Central School of Art in London (1963–66). He went on to become head of fine art at Chelsea School of Art. A Peter Stuyvesant Foundation Bursary awarded in 1966 enabled Cina to travel in America for several months, where the work of artists such as Barnett Newman and Frank Stella made a major impression. A notable series was the MH paintings of the 1970s - of which MH-9 (1970) was gifted to the Contemporary Art Society by 4th Viscount Esher and donated to Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. Glasgow in 1983 - where a unified surface is crossed by thin vertical and angled lines. Cina had many one-man shows, including at the Serpentine Gallery, in 1970 and 1980.
