Biography
Bateson Mason (b. Thackley, Bradford, Yorkshire, UK 1910 - d. 1977) painter of landscapes and architecture studied at Bradford School of Art (1927-1932) and the Royal College of Art (1932-35). He also taught at Bromley College of Art but became a fresident in Chelsea and his work was regularly exhibited in London, including at the Leicester Galleries in 1949, 1952 and 1955. Mason exhibited in Figures in their Settings and The Seasons exhibitions that were organised by the Contemporary Art Society and shown at the Tate Gallery and subsequently toured the UK. Nottingham Castle Museum acquired Sleeping Fisherman (1953) from the former and the South London Gallery acquired The Seasons (1956) from the latter, both with support from the CAS. The Government Art Collection also holds three paintings by ther artist: Church in Normandy, Fulham by Moonlight and Near Nermours.
