Biography
Gerard Chowne (b. India 1875 - d. Salonika, Macedonia 1917) studied art at the Slade School of Fine Art (1893-9) and also in Paris and Rome. He was a teacher of painting at Liverpool University 1905-8, founder of Sandon Studios Liverpool. Chowne went to Macedonia during the Great War, where he was drafted as Captain in the 9th East Lancs Regiment, but he was killed. The pictures which he produced there were exhibited at a memorial collection at the New English Art Club (1917).
