Biography
Horace Mann Livens (b, Croydon, London, UK 1862 - d, 1936) studied art under Walter Wallis at Croydon School of Art for two years and at Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts, Antwerp under Charles Verlat, where he met Vincent van Gogh. At the suggestion of Van Gogh, he went to Paris to study French painting. Exhibited at the Royal Academy 1890-9, NEAC, 1896-1904, Grosvenor Gallery and abroad. Livens had his first solo exhibition at the Goupil Gallery 1911. He was foundation associate and, from 1907, member of the International Society. He illustrated E. V. Lucas's London Revisited (1916) and continued to exhibit until 1929.
