Biography
Hubert Lindsay Wellington (b. Gloucester, UK - d. Henley-on-Thames, UK 1967) studied at Gloucester School of Art (1895-8), Birmingham School of Art (1898–9), and the Slade School of Fine Art (1899–1900). He taught at the National Gallery between and the Royal College of Art between 1919–22, became Principal of Edinburgh College of Art, 1932–42, and lectured at the Slade, 1947–9. He exhibited at the NEAC, RA and with The London Group although his first solo show was until 1963 at Agnews. He also reviewed for newspapers and magazines and wrote books including William Rothenstein (1923) and Jacob Epstein (1925). Abbott and Holder had a show of his landscapes in 1996. The Tate Gallery holds one of his many early Cotswold scenes, and work is also held by Ashmolean Museum in Oxford and Arts Council.
