

Jacobus Gerardus ‘Jaap’ Veldheer (b. Haarlem June 4 1866 – d. Blaricum, Netherlands October 18 1954) studied at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK), The Hague (1899-91) and was a painter as well as a graphic artist. He was co-founder of the Association for the Promotion of Graphic Arts. He published his woodcuts in Old Dutch towns on the Zuiderzee (1897) by De Erven Bohn. Veldheer was an art critic for Dutch newspapers for which he provided his own drawings. He was a member of Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam and Pulchri Studio in The Hague. He also taught a group of artists who around 1900 became well-known for their book illustrations.
