James Dixon (b. Tory Island, County Donegal, Ireland 1887 – d. Tory Island, Ireland 1970) was a fisherman and farmer by trade who took up painting late on in life. He was ‘discovered’ by British artist Derek Hill (1916-2000) who had a painting hut on Tory Island. Dixon’s work was exhibited in his lifetime in Belfast and London in 1966 and in Dublin in 1968.
