Biography
Kenneth Dingwall (b. Devonside, Clackmannanshire, Scotland, UK 1938) studied at Edinburgh College of Art (1955–59) and Athens School of Fine Art (1961-2). He was also the Andrew Grant Postgraduate Scholar between 1959 and 1960. Dingwall began teaching at Edinburgh College of Art in 1963; he was visiting professor at Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 1973-4 and in 1988 he was appointed professor at the Cleveland Institute of Art, Ohio. He is an abstract artist influenced by Mark Rothko and Robert Ryman, who he had seen in America. Dingwall had solo shows at the Scottish Gallery, Graeme Murray and Scottish Arts Council Galleries, all in Edinburgh, in the 1960s and 1970s and at the Peter Noser Galerie, Zurich in 1987. The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh, Perth Museum and Art Gallery and Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Glasgow hold his work.
