Koji Hatakeyama (1956)

Biography

Koji Hatakeyama (b. Takaoka, Toyama, Japan 1956) graduated from Kanazawa College of Arts and Crafts, Department of Metalwork, Kanazawa, Japan (1980) and established his own workshop in 1985. He also teaches in Japan as well as lecturing at the Royal College of Art in 2007. Between 1996 and 1998 his work, particularly cast bronze lidded boxes, was featured in a travelling exhibition, Contemporary Japanese Crafts, which was shown in Thailand, China and Denmark. In 2002 he participated in an exhibition, Hands On at the Philadelphia Museum and in 2003 Twist in Japan at the Musee des Beaux-Arts, Nancy, France. More recently, his larger works were included in a major exhibition at the National Museum of Modern Arts & Crafts in Tokyo (2012). Hatakeyama contiunes to participate in group shows in Japan and internationally including COLLECT in London and SOFA in New York and he regularly holds solo exhibitions at the Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh.
