Biography
Malcolm Mildwood Milne (b. Cheadle, Cheshire, UK 1887 - d. Oxford, UK 1954) was educated at Sedbergh School and later he was articled to Thomas Worthington & Sons, architects, in Manchester, but ill-health prevented his following a professional career, so encouraged by his amateur painter father he turned to art. From 1908–11 studied at Slade School of Fine Art with Henry Tonks and at Westminster School of Art with Walter Sickert. After World War I service in First British Ambulance Unit in Italy, in 1919 he resumed a professional artist’s life and joined the NEAC. In 1928 Milne was elected member of Manchester Academy, where he showed until 1952. He travelled widely in Britain and on the continent and had a shared show with Robin Ironside at The Redfern Gallery in 1947. An exhibition of his early work was held at the Maltzahn Gallery, London in 1971. Tate Gallery, British Museum and Victoria & Albert Museum hold his pictures.
