Mary Melville Farrer Foster (1890 - 1968)

Biography

Mary Melville Foster, née Farrer (b. Ingleborough, Yorkshire, UK 1890 - d. 1968) grew up in New Zealand but returned to England in 1905. She studied at the Slade School of Fine Art and then in Paris. She exhibited with The London Group, at the New English Art Club and the Royal Academy. She had solo exhibitions in London galleries, and aged 75, held a retrospective in Gloucestershire. Mary had two daughters, one of whom, Susan, later became a sculptor.
