Matt Rugg (1935 - 2020)

Biography

Painter and maker of reliefs. Born 8 November 1935 at Bridgwater, Somerset. Studied at the Department of Fine Art, King's College, Newcastle upon Tyne, under Victor Pasmore. Awarded travelling scholarship. Received R.A. Prize and Arts Council Award at the Young Contemporaries exhibitions in 1960 and 1961 respectively, and was represented in the Arts Council touring exhibition Construction: England 1963. First one-man exhibition at the New Art Centre 1963. Lecturer in Painting, Department of Fine Art, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, since 1962.
