Montague Shearman (1885 - 1940)

Biography

Montague Shearman (b.  Richmond-upon-Thames, UK 1885 - d. 1940), lawyer, civil servant and an art collector - particularly of French 19th-century masters - was a member from 1927, and Honorary Secretary, from 1938 until his death of the Contemporary Art Society. He bequeathed 10 works to the CAS including Les trois juges (The Three Judges), completed in around 1936 by George Rouault (1871-1958) and presented to the Tate Gallery - as well works by Camille Pissarro, Sisley, Toulouse-Lautrec, Renoir, Utrillo, Matisse, and Vuillard, amongst others.
