Paul Gopal-Chowdhury (1949)

Biography

Paul Gopal-Chowdhury (b. India 1949) moved to London when he was ten and later studied at Camberwell School of Art (1967- 68) and at the Slade School of Fine Art (1968-73). In 1973-74 he taught at Chelsea School of Art and won a Boise travelling scholarship and a French Government scholarship to paint landscapes in France. He had an exhibition at the Ian Birkstead Gallery, London in 1981 from which the Contemporary Art Society acquird two paintings of his and donated them to Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery (now the Danum) and Chelmsford and Essex Museum. He was awarded The Gregory Fellowship, Leed University (1975-77) and was artist in residence at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge and Kettle's Yard (1983-84). He has participated in many group shows including with The London Group, the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions, Hayward Gallery, John Moores Liverpool and Art Space Gallery for whcih he was also included in Flashback, Celebrating 25 Years (2013).
