René Buthaud (1886 - 1986)

Biography

René Buthaud (b. Saintes, Charentes-Maritime, France 1886 - d. Bordeaux, France 1986) attended classes at the École des beaux-arts, Bordeaux (1903-07), where he was a student of the painter Paul Quinsac (1858-1929) and where he later taught. Buthaud attended classes at the École des beaux-arts, Paris (1909-13), under Gabriel Ferrier (1847-1914). He was a painter and, after WW1, a ceramicist in the Art Deco style. He also designed stained glass and made decorative mosaics, such as those in the main courtyard of the Bordeaux municipal stadium (Chaban-Delmas stadium) in 1937.
