Robert A. Buhler (1916 - 1989)

Biography

Robert A. Buhler RA (b. London 1916 - d. 1989) was of Swiss parentage, who fisrt studied at the Kunstgewerbe Schule, Zürich, 1933, and at Basel, at the St Martin's School of Art, London (1934–6), and at the Royal College of Art in 1936. He exhibited at the Leger Galleries with Pitchforth and Dunlop 1942; at the Leicester Galleries 1945 (with Lawrence Gowing) and 1950; at Agnew's with Roger de Grey and Carel Weight 1959. Buhler exhibited with the NEAC. from 1945 and was a member 1946–51 and at the RA from 1946. He was  ARA in 1947 and RA in 1956. He was a member of The London Group 1950–1.  He taught at Chelsea and the Central School 1945–8 and at the Royal College of Art from 1948.
