

Stephen Dickenson Winkworth (b. Mancheter 1865-d. 1938) married Dorothy Mary Wilberforce (1875-1966). The Oriental Ceramic Society was founded on 31 January 1921 at his house, 13 Craven Hill Gardens, London. There were fifteen members, Mr George Eumorfopoulos (1863-1939) was elected President and Mr A. L. Hetherington was Secretary of the Society. Winkworth was a major contributor to the Royal Academy's exhibition of Chinese Art in 1935-6. He gave his collection of Chinese porcelain to his son William Winkworth and donated Chinese ceramics to the British Museum.
