Biography
Susan Wilson (b. Dunedin, New Zealand 1951) was expelled from teacher training college for radical political views. She then studied nursing and worked for two years in a neurosurgical unit. After travels in South America she went to England and studied at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts (1978–82) and then the Royal Academy Schools (1982–86). In 1987 she was the painting fellow at Cheltenham and Gloucester College of Art and Technology, and lectured at Wolverhampton Polytechnic and Royal Academy Schools as a visiting tutor, then became a tutor at Chelsea School of Art. She was awarded an Italian Government Scholarship to Venice (1984); Richard Ford Scholarship to Spain (1985); and a Spectator Competition commendation (1991). Wilson exhibited widely in group exhibitions, including Whitechapel Open (1980); John Player Portrait Award from 1984, being a finalist in 1987; Piccadilly Gallery from 1987; and Oriel Mostyn, Llandudno, 1990. Solo shows were held at Browse & Darby in 2000. HRH The Prince of Wales, The Usher, Lincoln and the National Trust hold her work.
