Biography

Vladimír Silovský (b. Lebanon 1891 – d. Prague 1974), graphic artist of over 400 prints who depicted scenes from Ostrava and Paris, studied at the School of Applied Arts in Zagreb (1911–1913), then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague under Max Švabinský (1873-1962), where he also taught printmaking (1945-62) and was influential to a generation of artists in the 1950-s-60s. He was a founding member of Hollar, a Czech graphic arts association founded in in 1917 and SVU Mánes, an association of visual artists, founded in 1887 and named after Josef Mánes (1820-1871) the Romantic Czechoslovakian painter.
