The Details
In a joint initiative by the Mayor of London and the Mayor of Newham, *Consultancy was appointed to deliver the Royal Docks Cultural Placemaking Strategy. Working in collaboration with the Royal Docks Team and urban design consultants Fluid, this work included community consultation, stakeholder one-to-ones, workshops with cultural leaders in the area and more widely across London, cultural mapping and policy review.
We worked alongside and in collaboration with teams delivering strategies on Economic Development and Public Realm and in the development of a creative, sustainable and inclusive strategy for this historically rich and culturally significant part of London.
Our work on major-scale cultural strategies, like the City of London’s Culture Mile, demonstrates the importance of a fine-grain understanding of how cultural programming contributes to placemaking, and as importantly to community wellbeing. We were delighted to have the opportunity to work with the local creative community, residents and stakeholders to consider the place of culture within the Royal Docks and what it will take to make the area a vibrant centre for cultural activity in the years to come. The Royal Docks is a designated Enterprise Zone and our work on this Strategy ensured that regeneration in the area will contribute to community wealth building.
