Biography

The Science Museum Group is the world’s leading group of science museums, comprising the Science Museum, London; the National Railway Museum, York; the National Science and Media Museum, Bradford; the Science and Industry Museum, Manchester; Locomotion, Shildon; and the National Collections Centre in Wiltshire. The group shares its internationally significant collections of items relating to science, technology, engineering, medicine, transport and media with over five million visitors each year. The art collection contains more than 8,000 works and 280 oil paintings. The Science Museum Group regularly works with artists across their sites, adding to the permanent collection, developing exhibitions and galleries, and contributing to their events programme.

In repsonse to the global pandemic of 2020 the Contemporary Art Society helped the Science Museum, as a new CAS museum member, with the support of the Victoria Miro gallery and Hiscox Foundation, to acquire a medicine-style jar: Alan Measles - God in the time of Covid-19 by Grayson Perry featuring his famous teddy bear, Alan Measles and his alter ego, Claire as well as Professor Chris Whitty and characters wearing PPE and holding rainbow signs for the NHS.
