Biography
David Cox (b. Falmouth, Cornwall, UK 1914 - d. Underwood Grange, Naunton, Suffolk, UK 1979) initially trained as an aeronautical engineer but later turned to pottery and eventually to oil painting. He was educated at Weymouth College and King's College, London and studied art in London, France and Italy. Cox was associated with the St Ives Society of Artists and the Penrith Society of Arts in Cornwall. He married at Kensington, London in 1936, Margaret E. MacLean and they had a son and a daughter. Cox exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, New English Art Club, Royal West of England Academy, National Institute of Painters, Leicester Gallery, Leger Gallery, Marlborough Gallery and widely overseas. He lived at 'Wick', Stoke-by-Nayland, Suffolk where he ran his own art school and one of his pupils was Revd Paul Biddlecombe, who painted the interior of Cox's studio.
