Man's Head in Blue was exhibited at The private collector : being an exhibition of pictures and sculpture belonging to members of the Contemporary Art Society, Tate Gallery (1950) when it was still in the collection of Sir Edward Marsh (1872-1953). Marsh had supported Harry Drury and enabled him to take a studio in Paris in 1952 by giving him a grant from his 'Perceval fund'. It was bequeathed by him, with over 200 other artworks, to the Contempoarary Art Society, whose executive committe member and Charirman he had been. The CAS donated it to Doncaster Art Gallery at the time of their re-opening with a new building in 1963. It was framed by the notorious Kings Road, Chelsea framemaker and art collector Alfred Hecht (1907-1991).
