£88,000 net raised for new museum acquisitions at the Artist’s Table with Edmund de Waal, with a major donation announced for Nottingham Castle Museum & Art Gallery

Artist Edmund de Waal and CAS Patron Jill Hackel co-hosted an intimate dinner at his South London studio that raised a net figure of £88,000, all of which will directly benefit the charitable mission of the Contemporary Art Society: supporting museums across the UK by donating great works of art.

Guests who included Emily Frick, Ann Nitze, Mary Moore and the Countess of Bessborough, were treated to a powerful reading from The White Road by the artist, as well a moving violin performance by Emily Sun, 2018 ABC Australian Young Performer of the Year.

Edmund de Waal created five unique works to sell in support of the event in the same body of work that he made for his celebrated exhibition Elective Affinities: Edmund de Waal at the Frick Collection in New York earlier in the year. He also announced during the evening that he was donating a major work to the Contemporary Art Society to be placed with Nottingham Castle Museum & Art Gallery, in the city where he grew up. This is the fourth work by Edmund de Waal the Contemporary Art Society has placed in museums around the country, with previous pieces donated to The Pier Arts Centre, Orkney; The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery, Stoke-on-Trent; and Cartwright Hall Art Gallery, Bradford.

The next Artist’s Table will be hosted by Grayson Perry on 10 March 2020, whilst previous events have been presented by artists including Antony Gormley, Isaac Julian, Haroon Mirza, Conrad Shawcross, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye and Gillian Wearing & Michael Landy.
