Biography
Nicholas Homoky (b. Budapest, Hungary 1950) studied at Bristol Polytechnic (West of England College of Art, now part of University of the West of England, Bristol) and later gained a degree in ceramics at the Royal College of Art in London (1976) having trained under Hans Coper. He set up his own studio in Cardiff, Wales and began teaching drawing and ceramic enamel painting at the University of Wales Institure, Cardiff. In 1979 he returned to his college in Bristol as a senior lecturer. He makes vessels, and his concern with volume and space is paramount. He works in porcelain and red clay which is thrown, turned and slabbed built. The pieces are often finished with black rims and linear designs inlaid with stained black porcelain slip.
