Matt Rugg (1935 - 2020)

Biography

Mastt Rugg (b. Bridgwater, Somerset, UK 1935 - d. 2020) studied at the Department of Fine Art, King's College, Newcastle upon Tyne, where he warded travelling scholarship, under Victor Pasmore. Rugg received the RA Prize and Arts Council Award at the Young Contemporaries exhibitions in 1960 and 1961 respectively, and was represented in the Arts Council touring exhibition Construction: England 1963. His first solo exhibition was at the New Art Centre, London (1963). He was the lecturer in painting at Department of Fine Art, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, from 1962.
