Biography
Philippus Antoon Derkzen van Angeren (b. Delft, Netherlands 1878 - d. Bedford, Nova Scotia, Canada 1961) began training with a decorative plate manufacturer in Delft; however, he soon turned to fine art and etching, becoming an independent artist. In 1911 he moved to Rotterdam where he found his inspiration in the activity of the port and the many ships which visited the famous trading city. From 1917 until his retirement in 1943 he was a teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam where he taught both painting and etching techniques. Antoon Derkzen van Angeren and his wife emigrated from The Netherlands to Canada in 1952.
