Biography

Dorothy 'Dolly' Eileen Henry (O'Henry) was the Irish lover of the artist John S. Currie (1883-1914) in London, who he murdered in her Chelsea flat and then shot hmself, dying a few days later in 1914. She had been living with her parents in Colchester, Essex until she left school at 14 and came to London to work in a shop. Her father, Thomas was a textile importer. Her mother was Kate, who bore seven children. Currie had become violent towards her some time before he succeeded in killing her and she had sought refuge in Cornwall where she was brefly a model of Laura Knight (1877-1970) who was living there with her husband Harold.
