Wendy Smith

Biography

Wendy Smith studied painting at Nottingham College of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art,  London. She has a DPhil from the University of York and was subsequently awarded a Leverhulme Research Fellowship to develop her thesis: Representation, Art and the Real World. She has taught in the fine art departments at Norwich, Manchester, Leicester and Brighton; she was formerly Head of Department of Fine Art at Camberwell School of Art and Crafts and, briefly, Head of Graduate Studies at the Laban Centre for Movement and Dance, London. She is now a freelance artist living and working in London and is the widow of artist Tony Carter (1943-2016).
