Granby Workshop CIC (2015)

Biography

Granby Workshop makes experimental, handmade products for homes. It was set up in 2015, growing out of the community-led rebuilding of a Liverpool neighbourhood, following years of dereliction and institutional neglect.

The Victoria Gallery & Museum received a room size body of work by Liverpool’s Granby Workshop who, founded in 2015 as part of the Turner-Prize winning collaboration between Assemble and The Granby Four Streets Community Land. Granby Workshop is operated by a group of residents in Liverpool’s Toxteth area, who use local materials – many collected from the disused Victorian terraced houses in the Granby Street neighbourhood – to craft ceramic products.

Granby Workshop (est. 2015, Toxteth Liverpool) was founded by Assemble. Granby Workshop is a continuation of a project with Granby Four Streets neighbourhood residents, where they assisted in the refurbishment of 10 houses. In 2015, Assemble won the Turner Prize for the Granby Four Streets Project. Granby is a community-oriented business, continuing to operate from Granby St, participating in the monthly community market and contributing to ongoing local renovations.
