Biography

Francesc Canyelles i Balagueró (b. 1889 Carrer de Sant Gil, Barcelona – d. 1938) studied at the ​​Llotja School of Design and Art, Barcelona, followed by an apprenticeship at the wrought iron workshop of Manuel Ballari, where he drew decorative models for locksmithing. He was commissioned by archictects such as Puig I Cadafalch and Jospeh Goday, with whom he travelled to Italy, to study sgraffitos. and participated in the interior decoration of the Post Office building (1927-7) and collaborated with decorative painting elements on the side domes and murals of the National palace and the Parliament buildings in Barecelona. He was director for the decoration of the Spanish pavlion at the Universal Exhibition of Brussels (1910).
