Jasleen Kaur (1986)

Biography

Jasleen Kaur (b. Glasgow, Scotland, UK 1986) lives and works in London. Recent exhibitions and commissions include Eastside Projects, Birmingham (2018); Victoria & Albert Museum; Goethe Institut, London (both 2017); Baltic, Gateshead (2016); Art on the Underground, London (2015). Solo shows include Tramway, Glasgow (2023); Humber Street Gallery, Hull; Copperfield, London (both 2022); Market Gallery, Glasgow (2018); Hantverk & Found, Margate (2016). Group exhibitions include Rochdale Art Gallery, Rochdale (2023); British Textile Biennial, Blackburn; Paradise Row Project; Touchstones Rochdale; Wellcome Collection (all 2021); Ort Gallery, Birmingham (2021); BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead; Artcore, Derby and The Art House, Worcester (all 2019). Kaur is Scottish-Indian who was brought up in a traditional Sikh household in Glasgow. She was influenced by her family's hardware shop which forged a connection with materials and their cultural connotations. Kaur was nominatedfor the Turner Prize in 2024.
