Biography
Artur Oliver Julianus Sahlén (b. Södra Säms, Älvsborg, Sweden 1882 – d. Stockholm, Sweden 1945) attended the painting school of Victoria Westberg (1859-1941) in 1903, then went to the Artists’ Union School, both in Stockholm and the Académie Colarossi in Paris in 1907. He founded the with Harriet Sundström (1872-1961) in 1911. In 1916, after a study trip to Germany, he established AB Handpresstryck, an original print publisher, in Råsunda and he invented a new printing apparatus for woodcuts in 1931. He was vice-chairman of the Graphic Society from 1929 as well as a writer for a variety of cultural publications. Sahlén is represented in a few national museums in Sweden and in international collections including at the V&A and the British Museum in London.
