Léon Michel Lang (1899 - 1993)

Biography

Léon Michel Lang (b. Paris 1899 - d. Guebwiller, Alsace, France 1993) was a student of Léon Weiss, Charles Guérin and Bernard Naudin, after WW1 and attended the École  des beaux-arts in Paris under  Charles Albert Waltner. He was a founding member of La jeune gravure contemporaine (Young Contempoary Engraving) in 1928. He left Paris, with his wife and daughter, to settle in Mulhouse in 1945. He became Professor at the Municipal School of Fine Arts there (1950 -1970) and the library there has a complete collection of his work, mainly lithographs. He participated twice in the Venice Biennale (1948 & 1950). He wrote a study on the local artist Godefroy Engelmann (1788-1839) about whom he had established an amateur society.
