Edward Baird painted no more than 35 canvases within his short artistic career. He spent most of his life in Montrose, Scotland and the topography of the town repeatedly formed the subject of his pictures. Baird draws the staccato geometry of Montrose similar to an early Italian Renaissance artist painting San Gimignano in Tuscany. The clouds overhead are reminiscent of surrealist painting.
