Whiteleaf Cross is an ancient cross carved into the side of a hill in The Chilterns near Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire. The antique mystery of the cross had a special significance for Nash. A 1931 painting of the same subject is in the collection of The Whitworth, University of Manchester (O.1979.2).
