Biography
Hereford Museum and Art Gallery is a local museum displaying costume, social history, natural history, art and archaeology connected with Herefordshire. The building is an exhibit in itself, as a fine example of Victorian gothic architecture, built in 1874. The façade includes carvings of animals and birds reflecting the interests of the museum’s founders. The Art Gallery shows a varied programme of six exhibitions per year, at least one of which focuses on the permanent collections of the museum, often including the art collection. A small area of the Art Gallery is dedicated to the work of the local artist Brian Hatton, who died in the First World War. The reserve collections are housed in a purpose built site nearby and are accessible to view by appointment.
