Ibrahim Mahama in conversation with Marie Helene Pereira

As part of our Hospitality series, we will hear Ibrahim Mahama speak about his residency project in Ghana. The residency offers an example highlighting different ways in which artists operate across different countries. Topics will include invitations, borders, integration, heritage, cultural exchanges, geopolitics and the use and mass consumption of culture.

Marie Helene Pereira is a cultural practitioner and Senior Curator (Performative Practices) at Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin, she is profoundly interested in histories of migrations and politics of identity. Previously she was part of the artistic team of the 12th Berlin Biennale, 2022; member of RAW Material Company in Dakar since its inception in 2011 and its director of programmes from 2019–22; and co-curated a guest section of the 13th edition of the Dakar Biennale of Contemporary African Art, 2018.

In 2022, the Contemporary Art Society acquired eight photographic C-prints by Ibrahim Mahama that consider the internal migration of workers in Ghana and the extractive mining industry in the South of the country. The work was acquired by Contemporary Art Society’s Collections Fund at Frieze and the suite of photographs will enter the collection at Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery.

The event will be on line please RSVP by 14th May 2023 to info@contemporaryartsociety.org to request a zoom link which will give you access to the link.
